So, what is this website about?
StreamSafePlaylists is a selection of genre themed Spotify playlists that collect a curated selection of 'stream safe' advertised music collections for the convenience of content creators to use as background music for livestreaming.
What does 'stream safe' mean? Is it the same as 'copyright free'?
‘Stream safe' (also phrased as ‘copyright safe', 'copyright friendly', 'DMCA safe', 'DMCA friendly' and 'royalty free’) is generally considered the expectation on the part of a content creator that the copyright owner of the music will avoid intercepting monetary profits generated by user created content to the best of their abilities. Some people use the phrase 'copyright free' but this is a misnomer, as all media has copyright until it ages into the public domain. To this point, you are trusting the copyright owner of the music to honor their word when they advertise it with use terms or a 'sync use' license.
Can I use this music for content creation other than streaming?
The common allowed use term for all the featured music collections is credited playback as background music during streaming. This does not extend to music only radio streams. However, a lot of the music collections do offer wider use terms for content creation, so check the source information with each playlist and do your research.
I got a false-positive copyright flag from a song on a playlist. How do I resolve it?
First, you need to contact the owner of the song using the source information with each playlist. After the owner of the song helps you resolve the copyright flag, that should just be it. If the owner of the music does not respond or refuses to help, use this contact form to tell StreamSafePlaylists about the problem music so it can be removed from the associated playlists.
I used the playlists for something other than streaming and got a copyright strike. What should I do?
Instances of DMCA actions by third party content recognition systems (both legit and false-positive) are not the responsibility of StreamSafePlaylists, as covered by the disclaimer. Do your research with the source information for derivative case uses.
How do you judge the music used in the playlists to be safe?
StreamSafePlaylists considers adding a music collection if it meets the following criteria.
• A decent amount of tracks released under a single artist name (or similar multiple names) on Spotify.
• A genre themed playlist featured on the associated artist's Spotify profile (or playlist account managed by the artist) that advertises its music as 'copyright free', 'copyright safe', 'copyright friendly', 'DMCA safe', 'DMCA friendly' or 'royalty free'.
• A homepage or landing page with a link to the Spotify playlist and outlined use terms or a 'sync use' license.
• A method of contact (email or social media) for users to request assistance for the resolution of false-positive copyright system flags.
Can I submit my own music for inclusion?
If you own a music collection/library/archive that meets the above criteria, you can use this contact form for submission. Keep in mind that StreamSafePlaylists does not accept payment in exchange for listings, you must fully own the copyright of the featured music (either as the original artist or commissioner/producer of the collection), and you must abide by the above mentioned criteria.
Do you have a vested interest in running this website?
In the interest of full disclosure, StreamSafePlaylists runs some limited ads and is managed by the owner of the StreamSelects music collections which are included in their respective genre playlists.
Do you have a update schedule?
All the source collections will be checked regularly for new content, and new playlists along with content updates will be posted on the StreamSafePlaylists Twitter account @streamsafeplay.
I own one of the featured music collections and wish you to remove it from your playlists. What should I do?
